Background

In 2019, just ahead of the COVID pandemic, I got nostalgic.

I had just moved to New Zealand, and I was unpacking my things when I stumbled upon my original 3DS and some Pokémon games.

I realised that I had missed a few generations (like Gen VII) and I had never finished others (like Gen V). I also found a lot of Pokémon on my saves that I wanted to preserve, and I figured out how to trade them up through the generations and into Pokémon Home.

I decided I would embark on completing all the games, in order, and relive as much of it as possible.

I would try and do everything legitimately, short of modifying the game saves.

Below is a record of the progress I've made.

My Personal Mantra

• I will not modify any save files to save time, speed up the game play, etc.
• I will not hack any Pokémon.
• I am okay using any exploit outside of the console to enable things like Event Pokémon or transferring so long as it is using legitimate software.
  • This is especially important given you cannot obtain Pokémon Bank or PokéTransfer without a modded 3DS now.
  • This means I can use the DNS exploit to mimic mystery gifts from Gen IV and Gen V. This is a valuable way of archiving Pokémon that would otherwise be lost to time.
  • It also means I can trade using pkmnclassic.net - an essential requirement for Gen IV and Gen V games.

Other Pokémon worth mentioning

Pls give bak

This poor shiny Gengar has the nickname Pls give bak. He is level 58. He was caught by trainer Nicole. They had Trainer ID 56544. He was caught in the Kalos region on 11/06/2018.

I found him on a copy of Pokémon Y that I purchased. At the time that Trainer was not named Nicole - so they must have traded them over as a Haunter to get them to evolve. The owner of the cartridge I purchased never followed the Pokémon's name - and never gave it back.

There is a strong nostalgic "lost and found" story with this Pokémon that I love.

If you can prove you are Nicole then I will give you this Pokémon back.
